PROJECT GOAL
The goal for the project was "To give others a medium in which they can learn basic French on their own in a course-like manner."
I wanted to provide a method for people to learn at French at their own pace but providing information the same way you would in a classroom. My main inspiration for this was Tae Kim's book on Japanese, available at guidetojapanese.org.
The goal created needed to be highly challenging, and I believe it is. It requires me to both create a book of sufficient length and to be able to teach a language to the same extent as possible within an teaching environment such as a classroom using the limited medium of a book. I needed it to be able to be easily readable by a large amount of people and to teach complex subjects in simple ways.
CONTEXT CHOSEN
The global context chosen was "Globalization and sustainability" but with a larger focus on globalization.
Languages exist for the purpose of communication, and it is why most people go out of their way to learn them. Being able to communicate is strongly linked to globalization with it being one of the most important factors in the creation of an interlinked world, which is the entire focus of globalization. Nowadays, it isn’t a struggle to contact those who are far away thanks to resources such as the internet, meaning the only thing needed to communicate is learning their language. Further globalization is to be achieved in this aspect, with the product created being able to help this.
As for sustainability, it links as, it, well, uh. Honestly, maybe not as much to sustainability. You could say that it encourages sustainability as it increases international cooperation by improving communication, but it links much more towards globalization.
